American Ex Slows Down
Dear friends,
American Ex is going to be slowing down for a while. I've committed myself to writing a novel and until that is done, the blog will necessarily be on the back burner.
I will still post occasionally. If you are not on my announce list and would like to be, please send me your email address via the email link, in my profile. It won't get used for any purpose but to let you know when I post.
To quote Douglas MacArthur as he ran from the Philippines, "I Shall return."
thanks,
Thomas

Hi, American Ex -
I'm Bob D. (Joe Bageants's madman) from April 11. I left a comment at the end of that page. Today, though I don't know how to contact you, I want to submit the following remarks.
What you wrote in response to "Wild Palms" on the 11th was so "to the point" and "telling" I was inspired to create a prologue to "trim your beard". Your insightful words are the headline. I felt the need for something concise and "to the point" as preface the site. You provided that for me, both the concept and the specific words.
So here you go: www.trimyourbeard.net
If you read down at least two paragraphs, you'll understand the contribution you've made. If you read further, you'll see why "understanding art" is a primary focus at TYB.
thanks /bob d.

I have slowed down to a nano crawl these days, as a result of writing the novel.
I hope to hear from you,
Thomas
Thomas, I want to read your book.
I just stopped by and wanted to ask where in Alabama you're from. My dad's last name is Graves and he's from a very small town in Alabama (he's in his 70's now), I think it was called Enterprise. Just curious, thanks!
Okay Thomas it's been two months (over actually) how is it coming?!!! I'm dying to know!
Ho-Kay, the official report:
As of this morning, I am 48,000 words into the thing. The standard for this sort of book is around 60.000, so, I'm well on my way here.
I am in the end game of the first draft, and expect to be finished in two weeks or less. Finished with the first draft, that is.
So, having never written anything longer than the longer articles in this blog, I am rather pleased with myself.
The original plan was to do the first draft in three months and it is right on schedule.
I had intended to writ the occasional blog article but my head has proven too small. I'm very focused on the novel and find I am not bright enough, or focused enough or whatever...I can't write this and the novel at the same time.
I hope and expect that will change at the end of the first draft. With the second draft, I'm dealing with different things and no longer creating the story. One hopes to be able to get back into the blog.
I will be glad to finish the first draft. There are so many things going on and so many interesting developments in the world.
Downing Street memos, Cracks in the Republican ranks and some Republicans finally figuring out that fearless leader is a radical and a liar and not the moral conservative they want to think he is.
Much, much to write about and I'm living in Dickville, whilst Rome is burning. The burn has only just begun, I expect to be back before the bonfire events begin.
Monroe, the detective and main Character says hello and promises to let me out of lock up, as soon as I finish the first draft of his story.
T.
GO THOMAS! GO GO GO!
